Waxflatter ‘Level Crossing'

Crossing Through (This is an interactive video and is best viewed through Google Chrome on this website http://minivegas.net/projects/waxflatter-level-crossing/) For the better part of a year we’d been working on a project for an abstract music video with our good friend Geoff Lillemon and experimental musician Fabrizio Greco. The concept was rather open ended, as with all things experimental, however insight from Greco that was that the song was based on visions of Chernobyl, and Lillemon’s dark / fluid imagery gave us the small direction we needed. As we got further into the project we looked to WebGL coding to make this more than just a video. We wanted to celebrate the abstraction of the music and bring viewers directly into this insane world. A standard video is viewable online via vimeo, but for the true, intended experience the video plays best when using Google Chrome and going to the website. WebGL allowed us to create an interactive painting with capabilities that change as the song progresses allowing for rotatable display, color changes, particle explosions, warping and video dismantling. Viewers can skip to any one of the 8 edit points in the video to explore different ways to twist and manipulate the dark world of Geoff Lillemon’s art. Play with it carefully as it can get in your head and control your dreams, but fear not since we’ve spent months with this and only have fluid visions when we drink, sleep, and breathe.
