Natural History Museum‘Biodiversity'

Biology Made Interesting Biodiversity is one of two installations that we created for London’s Natural History Museum and the opening of their Darwin Centre. Biodiversity examines the relationships between all living things via a real-time, randomly generated, and ever-changing visualization of the evolutionary Tree Of Life. We started with a 3D graphic of the Tree Of Life and from there an array of species were born, allowing users to better understand the vast scale and beauty of the living world. The Biodiversity installation worked with a group of projectors that took the viewer on an exploration of a computer-generated universe created from data that the museum's researchers collected and continue to collect. With such an enormous amount of data we found it important to convey the scale of data within elements of the project, and to allow this to change as researchers enter new data. The installation continues to be projected and continues to evolve like our living world.
